Love Letter

The temperature is rising. Spring is upon us. I’m back. I’ve been itching to hit the streets and photograph my city, and decided to start with the mural arts project “Love Letter”. The series is made up of rooftop murals from 45th to 63rd Streets along Market Street and collectively express a love letter from a guy to a girl, from an artist to his hometown, and from local residents to their neighborhood of West Philly. It was pretty awesome to see.

As I walked up and down Market Street, I did what I do – I stopped and talked to a bunch of West Philly residents, most of whom were gracious enough to let me take their photograph. It is an area that has a tremendous amount of blight, but also a vibrancy that is expressed through the personalities of those I spoke to, the shops I passed, and of course the murals.

My favorite conversation was with a young girl (see photograph 9) who asked me about my camera and said she too liked to take pictures.

This is part I of II. Enjoy.
